Dear Food Lover:
This is very, very true, your food could be a lifesaver for you.
Do you feel tired most of the time? Does the least little thing irritate you? Do you get angry easily?
If you answered yes to either of the above questions, there is a strong possibility you have a protein deficiency.
While the evidence found at the time Principle of Nutrition was referenced and was found to be inconclusive, it bears repeating that early symptoms of protein deficiency were loss of weight, fatigue, irritability, and lack of energy. In youngsters growth is retarded; this can readily be demonstrated in experimental animals by giving them a diet that is deficient in either quantity or quality of protein.
To evaluate your own need for protein , the best course of action, is to first check with your primary physician to rule out any other causes your symptoms may be related to.
However, if your symptoms are not related to any other health problems, you may want to check with a good nutritionist.
There is help out there and you can feel good again. One of the changes you may want to make is a modification in your diet.
Food Sources Rich In Protein
We have been taught that fruits and vegetables are ideal foods for an adequate diet. And while fruits and vegetables have many benefits which include their own vitamin content, they provide little protein. (Principles of Nutrition)
Your health is your greatest asset and when you start with balancing your diet, there is a strong possibility you will feel relaxed, calm, happy, happy and lovable.,,,
But, that’s not all…
When you include soy products in your diet, you will feel like getting up in the morning, feel like working 3-4 hours non-stop, and your moods will be within normal limits. In other words, you will be able to deal with unpleasant events in stride.
So what is this remarkable product that can do so much for you?
The Wonders of Soybean
The soybean (US) or soya bean (UK.) is a species of legume native to East Asia, widely grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses. The plant is classed as an oilseed rather than a pulse.
Soybeans are considered by many agencies to be a source of complete protein. A complete protein is one that contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids that must be provided to the human body because of the body’s inability to synthesize them. For this reason, soy is a good source of protein.

Where Do You Find These Food Sources
Soybean Products such as textured vegetable protein (PVT) are important ingredients in many meat and dairy products. (3)
You may wish to toss out any beverages that are not health enhancing for soy has its own therapeutic drinks. For a substitute you may try soy milk (also called soya milk, soy milk, soybean milk, or soy juice) and sometimes referred to as soy/drink/beverage- a beverage made from soybeans.
Other Therapeutic Values
Studies have shown that soy foods in the diet hold promise for cardiovascular health,
Research shows that soy may lower cholesterol in as little as four weeks.
Chemistry About Soy
Soy foods are often low in saturated fat and high in polyunsaturated fats, potentially further reducing cholesterol when they are used to replace animal protein sources. Soy also contains naturally occurring Omega-3 ALA fatty acids which have been studied for their impact on heart health.
There are 3 good reasons to use soy products as a protein enhancer:
The plant is classed as an oilseed rather than a pulse
Fat-free (defalcated) soybean meal is a primary low-cost source of protein for animal feeds and most prepackaged meals
Soy Vegetable Oil is another valuable product of processing the soybean crop. For example, soybean products such as textured vegetable protein (TVP) are important ingredients in many meat and dairy analogues.
So, you see there is hope. The evidence is in that soy has promises of a bright future. Your good health is your greatest asset and when you start with balancing your diet, you will feel relaxed, happy, yes happy and lovable.
But, don’t take my word for it; there is scientific evidence that soy is a great product:
One study compared cholesterol levels between those who drank 1% dairy milk as part of an overall sensible diet. In only four weeks, the soy milk group showed a 5% reduction in LDL cholesterol-a statistically significant advantage over those who consumed dairy food.. (4)
Another finding is as follows:
Research suggests soy reduces LDL cholesterol by 3% to 5%. “This level of reduction is significant, particularly from a public health perspective, since every 1% reduction in LDL reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by 2%-5%. ” (5)
So, you see, the evidence is pretty clear. Soy products have promising benefits. Just imagine yourself engaging in activities with your family again. They are going to be very proud of you.
But, before you go, you probably are wondering how to use soy products. The answers to the following questions have been given by Silk’s Nutrition Team and/or Advisory Board:
How much soy protein is recommended for daily consumption? Andrea Carrothers, MS, RD gave the answer:
“While there is no RDA for soy protein, many epidemiological studies show positive impact from as little as l0-15 grams of soy protein per day. This amount of soy protein can be found in 1-2 servings of most soy foods. The FDA approved heart-health claim for soy protein reads as part of a diet low in saturated fats and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. In order to display this health claim, food must contain a minimum of 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving. Consumers should be encouraged to determine soy protein contents.”
Is there a FDA recommendation for daily riboflavin intake? Elizabeth Tilar, MS gave the following answer:
“Not at this time. The FDA has approved a health claim for soy protein. “25 grams of soy protein along with a diet that is low in saturated fats and cholesterol, may help reduce the risk of heart disease. One gram of soy protein contains approximately 2.4 mg of riboflavins, 2 .5 grams of soy protein contains approximately 60-75 mg. of riboflavins.”
There, you have it, all the information you need to rid yourself of a tired run-down lifestyle. Soy bean has a high therapeutic value because soy beans can produce at least twice as much protein per acre as any other major vegetable or grain crop {except for hemp which can produce 293 lbs of protein per acre}, 5 to 10 times more protein per acre than land set aside for grazing animals to make milk, and up to 15 times more protein per acre than land set aside for meat production.
There you have it. Some of the benefits of soy beans. Choose soy beans today (after consulting with your primary care physician} and get prepared for a brand new lifestyle. You will be glad you did.
Yours for better health,
Almarine Francis
